Everyday Tips for Keeping Your Eyes Healthy
Did you know that March is the official ‘National Save Your Vision Month’? The entire month is a perfect reminder to take good care of your eyesight. Many take their vision for granted, unfortunately. When you have no irritation, it becomes easy to forget about visiting an eye doctor each year. To ensure your eyes remain healthy and your vision is clear, try out a few of these daily tips. A comprehensive eye exam should be your first step.
Believe it or not, eating a healthy diet promotes improved vision. You have probably heard the old saying that carrots are great for your health. Well, fruits and vegetables, particularly leafy greens, are critical to ensuring your eyes are healthy, too. Research has shown at foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon, tuna, and halibut, offer numerous eye benefits, too. Try to work some of these items into your diet on a daily basis for a noticeable boost to eye health.
Your eyes, like any part of your body, are susceptible to damage from the sun, the elements, and the usual wear and tear we experience. By protecting your eyes, you significantly decrease the chances of eye disease, surgeries, or of going blind.
Wearing sunglasses can be cute, but their job is to protect your eyes from ultraviolet rays. When buying new sunglasses, look for products that block 99 to 100 percent of UV-A and UV-B radiation.
Next, when inserting or removing contact lenses, be sure your hands are thoroughly clean to avoid infection. Always wash thoroughly before handling any contact lenses. You should disinfect said lenses as instructed before use, too.
